Working with a dietitian is a huge step towards a healthier lifestyle. Congratulations on exploring options for a healthier you! Diet is related to many aspects of health. Have you and your doctor talked about diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, hypertension, weight gain, poor lab values, metabolic syndrome, and the big one, prediabetes? Yes, prediabetes. I can help you get all of these issues under control and help explain how your life can change with a few lifestyle changes. Add years to your life, get your confidence back, improve your labs, up your sporting performance, and more with me!
One area I am passionate about and want to draw attention to is prediabetes. According to the CDC, 38%of Americans have prediabetes. Prediabetes is a stage where your body begins to develop an insulin resistance, but lab values have not reached diabetic levels, YET. Once you fall into the prediabetic range, you are at risk for developing diabetes, insulin resistance, and other chronic diseases. If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes and do not know what your next steps are, or, let's face it, did not know you needed to make changes, that is ok! Let's work together to get your health back on track!
Why I Became a Dietitian
My passion for health and nutrition started when I was a kid. I was always involved in sports, and I wanted to perform at my best. The effects of food on chronic disease, weight fluctuations, and human performance has always fascinated me. All of my dietetic education helped me to see how food is fuel, and our bodies need optimal nutrition to allow us to be our best selves. Diabetes and hypertension run in my family, so I wanted to prevent those comorbidities and help my loved ones.
I played division 1 softball, and the need for proper nutrition became evident very quickly. A few months into my freshman year, I had lost a serious amount of weight, and my passion for health became an unhealthy obsession. In order to be able to compete and simply keep up, I knew I needed food. I began to eat and eat with heavy binges to satisfy my body's cravings for fuel. After my softball career was over and I had put my body through years of unhealthy weight fluctuations, I knew something needed to change to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Studying nutrition and dietetics with the help of knowledgeable preceptors and professors, my view of food has changed! Food is fuel; "healthy" is a relative term; a proper diet can not only prevent chronic disease but can also improve current conditions. My goal is to help YOU get back on track, feel comfortable around food and with your food choices, improve comorbid conditions, and prevent future disease from occurring. YOU can do this, and I am here to help!
